Conquest - Window Layout Controls
The Framework controlling the ConQuest interface allows various windows to be open and are known as “Docking panels”. Opening each window (or docking panel) will occupy as much space as is available on the screen. Therefore there is no background screen area within the ConQuest application.
Each window that is opened can be sized and positioned to the users requirements.
The available windows in each module of Estimating, Valuations and Comparisons are accessed using the layout button in each module.
Here you will find the available windows for the module
Select a screen to open. Let us choose Notes
This will open the Notes window and locate it at the available space in this case below the composite items window in the bottom right.
We may wish to change the location in which case we use the docking windows system. By clicking and holding the top bar of a window we can drag the window to a new location.
Once the window moves there are options on where to locate it. The Blue arrows indicate the location of the window so by dragging to the arrow and letting go the mouse the window will be located.
The system setup is:-
Place window at top of screen to fill window width
Place window at bottom of screen to fill window width
Place window at Left of screen to fill window height
Place window at Right of screen to fill window height
This Icon in the middle of a window allows the user to drag the required window to this icon and position using the 4 arrows to the top, bottom, left or right of that particular window
The central icon Allows positioning inside another window.
For example let us open the rates window and position this inside the Notes window.
Here we can see that the Rates and Notes are now two tabs on the same window and can be accessed when required.
To remove any window from the screen select the icon on that window. To separate a window drag the window tab and not the top bar to a new position.
There is an option for docking windows available in the Options module.
Auto Hide will allow the user to decide when pinning a window which edge of the screen that is located.
Docking Hints allows a choice of styles for the Docking windows icons.
Pinning Windows
Pinning windows is a term given to locating a window in a hidden mode off of the screen which is accessed by a visible tab.
In this example we can see three windows pinned, namely Notes, Rates and Favourites.
Pinning windows is by using the icon on the top of a window.
When selected the window is pinned to the edge of the screen.
Here if we click the Favourites tab the window appears.
The window will remain open until a click on another window or we leave the current module.
To unpin a window, access the window and select the icon. The window can now be positioned using the docking windows system.
Windows that are pinned will first open in a narrow screen. Use the mouse to drag the edge of the screen to the required width. The next time you access this pinned window it will open to the last set width.
Useful Tips
Whilst most of the functions we need are accessible on the top toolbar, some functions may be easier to locate quickly using the favourite window, e.g. Copy Items, Bill Splitting, and Bill Merging. However the favourites window takes up space so pin this window to the side for easy access.
The Dims window may not be required to be open all of the time but having this window pinned to the side will allow quick access when required.
Screen Grids
The main view screen in Estimating, Comparisons and Valuations uses Grid technology to display the information.
The individual cells on the grid can be seen by switching on the grid lines if preferred.
Right click the description bar and select Horizontal grid lines.
The columns can be switched on and off to suit the screen layout you require.
Right click the description bar to access the columns option.
Each available column is listed and can be selected and deselected.
Each column can be designated to be a fixed user size or to auto adjust according to the contents of the column
Be careful which columns are given auto sizing as this may keep adjusting the look of the screen
The order of columns can be decided by the user. Click and hold a column header and drag to the position on the screen required.
In this example we have moved the flags to the left of the Types column. This will be the layout retained until changed by the user.
Sorting columns in Estimating and Valuation windows (this does not apply to Comparison view)
Each of the value columns can be sorted into ascending and descending order by clicking on the column header. This toggles the sort order, thus the Extension column can be sorted so that the most expensive items are at the top in value order. Similarly Quantity and Rate columns can similarly sorted. Even the units column can be sorted.
When a column sort is active a small arrow appears in the title to indicate the ascending or descending search.
To sort the Project back into the bill order, click on any of the following column headers.
These sorts have no effect on the reports when printing. The Bill always prints in Bill order.
Refresh
Grids are separate cells in the screen layout. By changing a cell the user must tell ConQuest that the screen layout needs to be refreshed to account for the changes and display in the correct order/layout. Obviously if the module is exited and re-accessed then the screen is automatically refreshed
However if a reference is changed the item will not move location until the screen is refreshed. To force this use the refresh button.
This means that many item references can be changed but the items will not sort until the refresh is implemented.
Resource Window
The job resource window is similarly a grid and the resources in the particular window can be sorted by the contents of the column.
By clicking the title bar for the column the resources are sorted ascending or descending and the direction
is indicated by the small arrow .
Here we have sorted by price ascending.
We could have sorted by Quantity or unit or rate.
To return to the library order select the following.
Other Windows
Other windows e.g. single build-up use the same technology with selecting columns and column moving feature available.
